Unger & Houlahan |
June 1990 |
|
Kyle Unger and Timothy Houlahan were convicted of the murder of 16-year-old
Brigitte Grenier. Grenier died at a 1990 rock concert near Roseisle,
Manitoba. Both defendants had given inconsistent confessions for the
crime to undercover police who posed as gangsters. Houlahan's
conviction was overturned after an appeal in 1994, and he committed suicide
while awaiting a new trial. At Unger's trial, a forensic expert
testified that a hair found on the victim was Unger's. In 2005, DNA
tests showed the hair belonged to someone else. In 2009, after a new
trial was ordered, the crown agreed to acquit Unger. (Winnipeg
